Percebe-se que quanto mais ela se rebaixa, mais recupera seus sentimentos em relação ao marido, mais o ama - ou seja, tudo o que a frieza do casamento não oferecia ela buscava com estranhos para assim tentar recuperar o tesão da vida conjugal.

A belga Carol Ledoux (Catherine Deneuve) é uma jovem manicure, deprimida e sexualmente reprimida que vai morar num apartamento em Londres com sua irmã Helen, meados dos anos 60. Helen sai de férias com seu namorado e deixa Carol sozinha. Ela começa a ter crises nervosas, delírios, paranóia e alucinações com estupro após sentir repulsa por seu namorado (e pelo namorado de sua irmã). É um dos psicodramas mais aterrorizantes da história do cinema. Carol enlouquece lentamente num clima claustrofóbico e perturbador. Um clássico de Polanski, que considera este filme a sua obra mais importante.

Belíssimo filme cantado, um musical/melodrama que conta a história de amor entre Genevieve, (Catherine Deneuve lindíssima), uma jovem de 16 anos que trabalha com sua mãe numa loja de guarda-chuvas, e Guy, um mecânico. Ela engravida, ele vai à guerra. O filme foi restaurado e a versão em DVD acabou de sair, e é imperdível.
